Children's Dentistry

A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over your entire tooth, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance. It covers the visible portion of the tooth above the gum line and is cemented into place by your dentist. Crowns are one of the most effective ways to save and protect a damaged tooth that might otherwise need to be removed.

Children’s dentistry (paediatric dentistry) focuses on the oral health of children from infancy through adolescence. It includes preventive care, early detection of dental problems, and age- appropriate treatments to keep your child’s teeth and gums healthy.

A Guide for Parents

Your child should have their first dental visit within six months of their first tooth appearing,
or by their first birthday, whichever comes first. Early visits help detect problems early and
establish a positive relationship with the dentist.

In Australia, the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) provides eligible children aged 2–17 with $1158 subsidised dental care every 2 years. At MedCentral Dental, we can check whether your child is eligible by using your medicare card. Please give us a call to check eligibility.  https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/child-dental-benefits-schedule

A typical visit may include:

  • Examination of teeth, gums, jaw, and bite
  • Professional cleaning to remove plaque and tartar
  • Fluoride treatment to strengthen enamel
  • X-rays if needed to check for hidden decay
  • Oral hygiene education tailored to your child's age
  • The dentist will also discuss diet, thumb-sucking habits, and any concerns you may have.

Brushing: Twice daily with a soft-bristled, age-appropriate toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste (rice-grain size under 3 years; pea-size from 3 years)

Flossing: Should your child have no gaps between their teeth, regular flossing is encouraged
