Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a safe, non-invasive cosmetic procedure that lightens the colour of your natural teeth. Teeth can become discoloured over time from coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, certain medications, or simply natural ageing.

Professional whitening uses controlled concentrations of hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide to break down stain molecules within the tooth, producing a lighter, brighter result.

Your Guide To A Brighter Smile

Your smile is one of the first things people notice. Research shows that dental whitening improves satisfaction with your appearance and oral health-related quality of life. Many patients report feeling more confident in social and professional settings after treatment.

  1. In-Office (In-Chair) Whitening
A high-concentration whitening gel (typically 25% hydrogen peroxide ) is applied by your dentist in the clinic, with your gums carefully protected. Treatment takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes and produces immediate, noticeable results. Ideal if you want fast results in a single visit.
  2. Take-Home Custom Tray Whitening
Your dentist creates custom-fitted trays from impressions of your teeth. You apply a professional-grade gel (typically 10-22% carbamide peroxide) at home, typically wearing the trays for 30 minutes daily for 2 weeks or until desired results are achieved. Results build gradually and can be easily maintained with top-ups. Studies confirm that even 10% carbamide peroxide produces significant, long-lasting whitening.
  3. Combination of In-Chair whitening followed by Take Home Trays

To get the best, longest lasting results, a combination of both is the most ideal.

Mild, temporary tooth sensitivity is the most common side effect, affecting roughly half of patients during treatment. It typically resolves shortly after treatment ends. We can help manage this with desensitising products, adjusted concentrations, or modified wear times.

  • Existing fillings, crowns and veneers will not change colour with bleaching and may need updating afterwards to match.
  • Yellow and brown stains respond best; grey discolouration may require longer treatment.
  • A dental check-up is recommended before whitening to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy.
  • With good oral hygiene and occasional touch-ups, results can be long-lasting.
